Discount supermarket Lidl has launched the UK’s first ever smart laundry refill station. The innovation is expected to save upto 3,000 single-use plastic laundry bottles in just over six months!
Created in partnership with Chilean sustainability start-up Algramo, who have alongside creating a benchmark for a sustainable circular economy, also dedicate themselves to helping Chilean families afford life’s essentials.
Using smart chip technology that recognises the reused bottle, will provide shoppers with a ticket that they can then use and pay at the till, saving them 10% on the purchase each time they refill, meaning not only will the innovation save the planet, but also consumer wallets.
Currently on a pilot scheme at the Kingswinford branch part of Lidls commitment to reducing plastic waste and reducing plastic packaging by 40% by 2025, which has already been said to have removed around 1 billion pieces of plastic from shelves.
