I hate to break it you… but the beloved Dairy Milk bar will be shrinking, and not in price, but size! Cadbury is reducing the fan favourite chocolate bar to cut costs in the ongoing “shrinkflation” also seen from other similar FMCG brands.
A spokesperson from Mondelez said “We’re facing the same challenges that so many other food companies have already reported when it comes to significantly increased production costs – whether it’s ingredients, energy or packaging – and rising inflation,”
“We understand that consumers are faced with rising costs too, which is why we look to absorb costs wherever we can, but, in this difficult environment, we’ve had to make the decision to slightly reduce the weight of our medium Cadbury Dairy Milk bars for the first time since 2012, so that we can keep them competitive and ensure the great taste and quality our fans enjoy.” (1)
This is not the first time Cadbury announced a reduction, in 2015 they cut Crème Egg Packs from six to five. But they are not the only ones to do so , with National Statistics recording 206 products that had shrank in size between 2015-2017, with the majority being food based products.
On the bright side you can feel 10% better about cheating on your diet with this chocolate bar… Or least that’s what I tell myself.
